Fussy Cutting Lace Ribbon Anything Goes

With the sunflower taking center stage I decided to use my copics for the coloring while crystal effects and a white gel pen was used on the flower centers.  I first stamped the image twice, colored one completely and cut it out.   Then on the second image I only colored the largest flower, cut it out and mounted it on top of the first image for a 3D effect slightly curling the edges upwards with the bone folder.  I had a tiny lady bug stamp that was stamped and cut out twice, once in black for the body, in red for the wings and used a black marker to dot the wings.

I began building with the layering of the card base in Crumb Cake then added -

• Whisper White
• K&Company Designer Paper
• Scallop Edge Border in Daffodil Delight
• Doily
• attached my ribbon (did you notice how I brought my ribbon through one of those little scallops?)
• Spellbinders provided another layer in Daffodil Delight
• then came a Spellbinders circle that I sponged the inside with Crumb Cake Ink.  Notice this layer in the pictures above.
• At this point I tied by bow and attached the sunflowers
• little button brads and ladybug was added last

This was one of those cards where you sort of break out of the norm and use all those non Stampin’ Up items that you really like but ordinarily wouldn’t use.  Hope you like it and wish me a little luck while you’re at it! *smile*

Something A Little Fishy – PPA95

At the Pals Paper Arts this week they challenge you to make your card with the use of brads…I got a little bubbly.

I know this fish was popular last summer but for me it’s one of those things that will never die.  I will probably use it every summer for one reason or another and just update it with new SU! products.  For instance:

       

Using the Glimmer Brads which had that beautiful ocean blue color that reminded me of the Caribbean ocean and the use of Smooch Spritz on the fish.  I found that these brads were just a little too bulky, attaching them the usual way, so I snipped off the arms evenly with the top portion of the brad, added a glue dot. This gave a much smoother and cleaner look when I placed them back on the card.

                

I used the Vanilla Shimmer only spraying lightly, just enough to give it a hint of sparkle.  And of course Baja Breeze had to be the color choice.  I gave this fish a little lazy look as it swims by, by adding an eye lid and Inspired by Nature provided the sea grass.

You can see, here, that smooth look of the brads and that I popped everything up with dimensionals.

You Are My Sunshine

Have you ever bought designer paper, liked it at the time, but found it shelf sitting?  I can truthfully say been there done that!  I came across this wood grain paper  and thought I should put it to use.  I originally thought I wanted to use it with the Owl Punch but changed my mind and made this card instead.

         

I was aiming for a weatherboard fence look.  If you look closely you’ll see I made vertical lines with my Chocolate Chip marker at each valley of the punch (they were not previously there), added vines with the Two Step Bird Punch then a few daisies compliments of KCompany.  Sentiment is computer generated.

Only one piece of board and a larger flower mounted on Pear Pizzazz.

You might see this paper again, I saved enough to do another with the Owl Punch. *smile*

Just a quick post today, they are coming to work on my computer today and I want to have all my computer work done before they get here in case something BAD happens *smile*  I’m sure things will be fine, its just a check up so to speak.

Couple Cards To Share

Jacqueline is a sweet lady who happens to love card making!  I think she spends most of her free time thinking of ideas and putting them on paper.  I happened to be the lucky recipient of a couple that she made recently, please take a minute to have a look.

For the masculine side ~

     

My eye gets drawn to the airplane with the sponging she did for the sky matching her background paper (Marina Mist).

For the feminine side ~

        

The unique thing about this card is it can open from right to left, like a book (the gate fold)

A Different Birthday Card

How was everyone’s weekend?  Waaay too short I’m sure, can you believe that we only have one week left of May! 

I have a friend of a friend who is turning the ‘BIG 40’ in a couple of days…lordy, lordy.  She asked me to make a Sympathy Card suitable for a Birthday Card for her friend.  Okay…that’s different!

With Deepest Sympathy ~

        

Once again the picture does not reflect the background of this card hardly at all.  On the Whisper White piece I made score lines every 1/4” all the way across the card.  Here is another picture taken at a different window and more on an angle.

                   

Okay this is a little more like it.  I took the picture in front of my computer, turned the screen off and results aren’t too bad…..hummmm.

I choose Soft Suede and Whisper White for the card base, adding a paper daisy attached with an Antique Brad and a little Garden Green for the Little Leaves Die.  All Whisper White edges were sponged with Soft Suede Ink.

Having a look inside ~

                  

For the inside sentiment, I think the card will go something like:      with deepest SYMPATHY…….on turning the BIG ‘40’ … etc.

More Pretty In Pink and Always Artichoke

I happened to come across this die recently by Tim Holtz, it wasn’t even on sale and I bought it!  Yikes……usually the only thing I don’t buy on sale, in the stamping world, is Stampin’ UP!  What can I say….I liked it!

Here’s the result of that purchase ~

         

First of all I have to tell you that the wing on the little birdie was NOT part of the die set.  I kept thinking the bird looked a little scrawny – then the light bulb went off in the brain and said ‘a wing’. *smile*  I got out the trusty ole Two Step Bird Punch and it fit the bill perfectly.  I then distressed the edges of the cage with Crumb Cake Ink and sponged the edges of the small white flower with Pretty in Pink Ink.  I mounted both bird and cage with dimensionals.  If you look closely you will see that I added a second tail to the bow, there are four tails and one bow, it seemed to add a little more flair.  The flowers are the Boho Blossom punch.

Spellbinders provided the scalloped circles, two in Always Artichoke and one in the Pattern DSP Stack.  To square off the card I placed Basic Pearls at two corners, upper left and lower right.  More pearls were added to the flowers and bird.  All was mounted on Crumb Cake card stock.

I kept the inside low keyed ~

                       

Have you ever noticed how the Scalloped Edge Border punch compliments the Spellbinder Nesties – Lacey Circles die?  Not bad, huh?

The Retired Garden Whimsy

OMGosh……this one got by me!  Stampin’ Up retired this set and I never got to use it until now.  Has that happened to you?  I was going thru my stamp sets the other day and happened to come across this one and noticed I had not even taken it out of the box and have not done one thing with it.  So I had to knock the dust off and put it to use at least one time. *smile*

       

I did put it all together with this year’s colors, Pear Pizzazz and Pacific Point.  The flower is a mounted Boho Blossom punch.  The center is made from Daffodil Delight card stock.  Remember in an earlier post about flower soft?  I only needed just a small amount, so I got that paring knife out and scraped on some Daffodil Delight card stock until I was able to get all that I needed.  A little added texture to the butterfly came from using my 1/8 and 1/4 inch circle punches.  Textured card stock was used in P. Pizzazz and P. Point while Whisper White smooth card stock provided the background for the stamped areas.

You know I was thinking as I was using the swirl stamp “the time to be happy is now…the place to be happy is here”  could actually be used on a party invitation.  I decided to hang on to this set for a while longer. *smile*

The inside ~

                      

I saved the larger butterfly for the inside.  I stamped it twice, cutting out only the two larger wings and mounting them with dimensionals on the first stamped butterfly.  Following suit with the butterfly on the front, I used the 1/8 and 1/4 inch circle punches for the wings and antennas.

A Wedding Card and PPA Challenge

Hello everybody!  I trust all is well and that you are enjoying your Spring so far. 

It’s time for another PPA Challenge.  Although running a little behind (I like to enter things right off from the start), I will be entering this card in their Wedding Challenge.

I was given a free pass to the Summer Edition of INKspirations 4U by Carla at Carla’s Scraps ~ THANK YOU CARLA!  I wanted to share something that I have already gained from this edition. Although not 100% is cased, a large portion of it is (flower and vase).  But I just thought it was so cute, I wanted to make it so bad, so here it is.  Hope you like it as much as I did.

          

I didn’t have any instructions, only a picture.  But what I can share with you is the differences that I made on the card….which are:

• sprayed the flower petals with a pearlized mist

                   

• added the pearl halfback
• used Pretty in Pink ribbon
• attached three pearl halfbacks underneath the ribbon
• cleared embossed the sentiment suitable for a wedding card, almost any sentiment in the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set would work  
• finished off the inside
• used SU! DSP Neutrals Collection
• the flower and the vase are popped up with dimensionals

A feminine Card For Any Occasion

Hi stampers!  Hope you enjoyed the Pals Hop yesterday, there was some pretty cool cards on parade!

For some reason I got into navy, yellow and green.  My card tomorrow is the same color scheme.  Both cards reflect either a stamp or die that I have never used before and they aren’t new pieces.  Does that tell me I have too much???

       

Remember the Vintage Vogue Stamp set, which happens to be one of my favorites, the largest flower that has the script writing on it?  That’s where the idea, for the largest flower on this card, originated.  Do you see the similarities in the Navy piece with the script writing?  I had a scrap piece that I had stamped with the En Francais in W. White Craft Ink for a project some time ago and never used it.  If you look closely you can see that I did the same thing with the center piece in the White and Navy flower, the layer just underneath the yellow brad.

TIP:  Don’t throw those scraps away, you NEVER KNOW when they come in handy – no matter how big or how small!

The other two flowers are also from the Blossom Party Die.  I just broke them up and did not try to put all the die cuts into one flower.  I popped up the largest flower with dimensionals, using my bone folder, I  pulled the largest flower petals downwards the other two flowers were pulled upwards. You can see that a little better in the picture below.

The piece behind the ribbon is Spellbinders - Labels Eight die, cut in half.  Added a Navy piece punched with the scalloped edge border topped with a piece of checkered yellow ribbon. A double punched MS butterfly brought it all together. 

For the inside ~

                 

Stamped with the En Francais stamp in W. White Craft Ink but only on Pear Pizzazz card stock.  I decided to cut a portion of the flower off, as if to be peeping around the corner.

• Card stock – W. White, Night of Navy, D. Delight and Pear Pazzazz
• Punches – Blossom Party, Spellbinders, Scallop Edge Border, MS butterfly and tag.

A Graduation Gift Card Holder

For your inspiration today I made a Graduation Gift Card Holder that I was inspired by Frenchie at Stamp & Scrap with Frenchie. 

I felt like I had no choice on the colors for this card.  In this area, the school colors are green with yellow trim.   

The changes I made were to give this little bird wings and I needed a gift card holder not a money holder. I wanted to give this card a little ‘star’ power.  I punched out a couple little stars and ran twine through them forming a banner.  I, also, added a couple stars to the inside with star brads on top of the punched stars for a little added bling.  I searched and searched for a graduation designer paper of some sort and came up with nothing.  Decided to make my own with the Happy Graduation stamp from Teeny Tiny Wishes randomly stamping in various colors.

         

It really is not difficult to come up with a gift card holder.  I just put the card on a scrap piece of paper and got my measurements and went from there.  Here is the pattern ~

        

I think its pretty self-explanatory.  You need to place your double sided tape as close to the outside edge as possible.  I have marked the placement with the heavier black line.  Easy peasy!

• Card stock and Inks – G. Green, R. Red, Not Quite Navy (was a tiny piece of scrap) D. Delight, B. Black and W. White
• Punches – Owl, 3/4” square, rounded corner, Word Window and Modern Label punches
